How to Land a Job by Submitting 1 Application a Day

How many job applications are you submitting each week?

If you’re like most job seekers, you’re probably hitting double digits.

Now, consider how many of those applications lead to interviews.

Most likely, it’s not as many as you'd like.

So, you’re putting in a lot of effort and getting little in return.

Which is exhausting!

It’s time to try a new approach that will help you…

  1. Land more interviews (woohoo!)
  2. Stay motivated and prevent burnout (this is a must)
  3. Develop a system you can be consistent with that will get you results (let’s go!)

Let's break down how to land your next job by submitting just 1 well-targeted application per day.

1. Hyper-Focus on your Target Role

First, you've got to narrow down your focus to 1 primary role.

This clarity is crucial, particularly in a competitive job market.

It helps you craft a clear narrative about why you are the perfect fit for your target role.

Typically, I've found that job seekers get 𝘧𝘦𝘸𝘦𝘳 interviews when they're pursuing multiple roles simultaneously.

Why? It’s confusing.

The recruiter or hiring manager will review your LinkedIn and wonder:

  • What role do they really want?
  • Are they actually qualified for my role?

If there’s doubt, you're probably not going to get an interview.

They have too many other options.

Stick to similar job titles, and avoid applying for roles that require vastly different skill sets.

2. Rethink your LinkedIn and Resume

A recruiter spends 6 seconds skimming your resume.

In those 6 seconds, is it evident what role you’re pursuing and why you’re a great fit?

If you can’t answer "YES" with 100% confidence, it’s time to make some updates.

  • Use your summary to highlight the top 3 reasons why you're a fit, backing each with a core achievement.
  • Prioritize the most relevant information by putting it at the top.
  • Ditch any filler words, "results-driven" or vague skills, "team player."
  • Re-organize your experience bullets so the most relevant examples are at the top.

You need to eliminate any ambiguity that would make recruiters second-guess your fit —make it easy for them to see you as the ideal candidate.

This is why #1 is so important, and your resume and LinkedIn profile need to be optimized for 1 primary role.

3. Only Apply to Recent and Relevant Roles

If you submit only one (or a few) applications a day, you can be more selective about the roles you apply to.

You’ll dedicate more time to each application (more on this later) but have a higher interview conversation rate.

You’re also only going to focus on roles posted within 24 hours.

So, the next time you look at a job board, sort it so that the most recent roles appear at the top.

Applying to recently posted roles increases your visibility and the likelihood of your application being reviewed while the search is still active.

4. Reach Out to the Hiring Manager

Identifying and contacting the hiring manager with a personalized pitch can significantly boost your chances.

Your message should succinctly highlight the immediate value you can bring to the role, focusing on key contributions you're prepared to make.

This has become a more common practice, so put in the time to make sure your message is personalized.

This direct line of communication can distinguish you from the sea of faceless applicants.

5. Network with Company Insiders

Don’t underestimate the power of networking.

Reaching out to 2-3 people at the company, especially those in or close to the team in your target role, can provide invaluable insights and potentially champion your application internally.

This step is about building relationships, not just asking for favors, so approach it with genuine interest and professionalism.

6. Stay Organized

Keep your application and save the job description (not just the link).

Follow up on your outreach messages, and stay consistent!

Remember, successful job hunting is about Quality + Consistency + Focus, not just quantity.

By taking this application approach, you'll spend less time applying to roles and more time interviewing.
