Launching Now 🚀 The Better Career Newsletter!
Jun 26, 2023Thanks for joining The Better Career Newsletter!
You’re here because you know you can do better.
Better in your career, better in your life. For yourself and for your family.
You might be…
🙁 Working a job you hate
😩 Not making enough money to have the life you want
😢 Lacking the work-life balance or flexibility (remote) that you need
😭 Working hard applying to jobs but not getting the job offer
You’re not alone in feeling this way. Everyone I’ve coached felt the same way before making their career transitions.
Fortunately, there’s a better life ahead for you. And I’ll give you the strategy and support system that has worked for so many others in getting there.
- I’ve coached a manicurist toward landing a remote Customer Success role at a Tech company.
- I’ve worked with a 1st grade teacher to get a Tech Sales role where she increased her income from $40K/year to $110K/year. 💰
- I’ve helped a Sales Rep who hated his job, get a new job as a Solutions Engineer. He’s been in that job for 9 months now and LOVES it! ❤️
I’m grateful to have been able to help create this story so many times and I’m confident your story will have the outcome you’ve dreamed of.
Why am I starting this newsletter?
I am a first-generation American born to low-income immigrant parents. Growing up, I didn't have much - no connections, no trust fund, or no career direction or guidance. Despite being an underdog my entire life, I worked hard and found success in the Tech industry. Tech has provided me with opportunity and a life that I never could have imagined growing up. Now, I'm committed to helping you and others achieve success through careers in Tech.
Why am I well equipped to help you in your career journey? I've:
- Built and led teams in multiple high-growth Tech companies (mostly recently as Senior Director at Outreach)
- Built a deep network of thousands of hiring managers and recruiters through founding PreSales Collective and Academy
- Hired, interviewed, and coached thousands of people throughout my career
- Helped 100+ people start brand new careers within the Tech industry (some who 3X their salaries)
I’ll wrap this first edition with a powerful story:
Last Friday, I was able to celebrate and individual I’ve been working with for a few months who landed an incredible job offer for his first Sales Engineering role. (we’ll share publicly soon - it just happened)
I love this story because he had to overcome a LOT of rejection. In fact, he finished multiple final stage interviews but didn’t get the offer - only to be barely lose out to a more experienced or internal candidate.
Most people would give up. He didn’t. He stayed positive and kept pushing forward - on to the next opportunity.
Here are a few UNCOMMON things he did that made him stand out:
- Sent relevant, value-add “check-ins” to the hiring team (manager, recruiter, influencers, etc.)
- Sent pre- and post-interview emails to the interviewers (rarely do candidates do both) after every interview
- He meticulously prepared for this interviews and worked with me and his mentors to validate his approach, reviewed the questions he would ask, and did multiple dry-runs of his presentation/demo
- He built relationships and asked for referrals
The takeaway: don’t let rejection discourage you, it’s simply part of the process.
It takes rejection and failure to learn, adjust, and ultimately get to your destination (the job offer!!)
If you’re excited about a role - go after it! Even if you don’t have past experience in that role.
Develop a solid strategy, put in the work to prep, stay with it, and you will get what you want.
Thanks again for joining me. I'm glad you’re investing in yourself toward making a life-changing career change.
Starting today, I’ll be sending you real, no-BS, strategies and tips that you can apply immediately in your job search.
In the next edition of newsletter, I’ll cover "Negotiating Your Job Offer" - a topic I get asked about a lot and one I’ve been on both sides of as a hiring manager.
I’m excited to be with you along your journey and can’t wait to celebrate with you when you start your better career.
